Empowering Relationships, One Connection at a Time
Welcome to my practice, where I offer therapy and counseling services for individuals, couples, and families. I firmly believe that good mental health is not the absence of problems, but rather the ability to deal with those problems productively, creatively, and effectively. If life's challenges become overwhelming, I consider it a strength to reach out for help, and I have been privileged to assist people in moving beyond depression, anxiety, and general unhappiness into healing and personal growth for over 35 years.
Treatment Approach
I approach therapy with compassion, warmth, honesty, and directness. I believe that within each person lies the will towards health, and my role is to help enable you to use your strengths to achieve your goals. My therapeutic style is empathic, non-judgmental, and secure, creating a safe space for you to address your concerns and explore your life experiences. During our initial phone conversation and first session, I encourage you to ask questions and determine if you feel comfortable with my approach.
Services Offered
I provide therapy and counseling services for a wide range of issues, including depression, anxiety, relationship problems, grief and loss, parenting challenges, and mood disorders. I specialize in the following areas:
- Couples Therapy: I am a certified couples therapist trained in Imago Relationship Therapy, focusing on fostering communication, understanding, and connection between partners. By promoting empathy, respect, and active listening, I can help you and your partner develop a stronger, more satisfying relationship.
- Imago Relationship Therapy: This form of therapy emphasizes the importance of understanding your partner's needs and desires and learning to communicate in a more open, honest, and compassionate manner. By fostering a deeper connection and resolving past hurt, you and your partner can build a stronger, more supportive relationship.
- EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing): As a certified EMDR therapist, I use this innovative technique to help you overcome trauma, anxiety, and other emotional distress by reprocessing distressing memories and promoting adaptive responses. By focusing on the past, present, and future, EMDR can lead to rapid and effective healing.
Professional Background
I received my Ph. D. in Psychology and Education from the University of Michigan, following my undergraduate work in Psychology at McGill University. Before establishing my private practice in 1985, I worked as a school psychologist, staff psychologist, and consultant, gaining extensive experience working with children, parents, and families. I have also led groups in marital relationships, grief and loss, parenting, and mood disorders. I am committed to ongoing professional development and regularly attend workshops and conferences to stay current with the latest research and techniques in psychotherapy.
