My Journey to Becoming a Counselor
I remember the day I sat across the kitchen table from my neighbor, Edie, who had recently lost her husband of fifty years. Edie was understandably heartbroken, and I was humbled by the privilege of being present with her as she shared cherished memories of her life with me. In that moment, I learned the power of simply being present with someone and truly listening to them. This experience sparked a desire in me to become a counselor, and I was reminded of the tapestry metaphor that Edith Schaeffer used to describe the Christian life. As I reflected on my experiences, I realized that God had woven together threads of love, loss, and provision to create the tapestry of my life.
Education and Experience
I earned my Master's degree in counseling from Westminster Seminary (CCEF) in Philadelphia, PA, where I studied counseling, the Bible, and Reformed theology. I also received a Certificate in Advanced Professional Counseling at Biblical Seminary in Hatfield, PA, and completed post-graduate work for licensure at Alliance Graduate School of Counseling in Nyack, NY. Additionally, I trained in marriage counseling through the Gottman Institute. I have experience counseling at First Choice Women's Resource Center, Redeemer Montclair, and in private practice.
My Personal Life
I reside in Northern, NJ, with my husband, Dan, and our 26-year-old son, Ethan. In my spare time, I enjoy visiting gardens and museums with ancient tapestries, restoring a National Historic Site, and cultivating herbs for use in cooking. I am also a member of the Garden Club of America and have a passion for gardening. Much of my life has been dedicated to ministry, including helping to plant two churches in Northern New Jersey.
