Thrive Behavioral Health is a multidisciplinary behavioral healthcare practice based in Iowa City, Iowa. Founded and co-owned by Lanaya Ethington and Darrel Kirby, Thrive Behavioral Health is committed to providing quality, innovative, and culturally competent psychotherapy services to the local community. Our mission is to create a harmonious healing environment for both the clients seeking our services, and the therapists offering those services, in order to contribute to a healthier community.

Darrel Kirby, LISW
Darrel Kirby is the co-founder and co-owner of Thrive Behavioral Health. He is a mental health therapist and alcohol and drug counselor. When Darrel found his own life unravelling at age 20 and unexpectedly losing all of his eyesight, he sought psychotherapy and discovered such healing that he was driven to establish a career helping others. Darrel believes whole-heartedly in his clients and their ability to heal wounds, gain insight, make healthy changes, and thrive! Darrel is passionate about his work and is committed to not only helping people feel better but actually get better.
Lanaya Ethington, Ph. D
Lanaya Ethington is the co-founder and co-owner of Thrive Behavioral Health. She is a licensed psychologist in the state of Iowa, and she has over ten years' experience working with people who represent a wide range of presenting concerns and identities. Her treatment specializations include anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, grief, loss, adjustment, life transitions, eating disorders, and body image concerns. She has extensive experience in working with concerns related to international students, acculturation, and complex identity development.
Gerta Bardhoshi, LMHC, PhD
Gerta Bardhoshi is a licensed mental health counselor in the state of Iowa and has over ten years' experience working with people who represent a wide range of presenting concerns, ages/developmental stages, and identities. Her treatment specializations include anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, loss, adjustment, and life transitions. She also has experience in working with children/adolescents and international students.

- Individual Counseling: Our therapists provide individual counseling services for adults and adolescents who are seeking help with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, loss, adjustment, life transitions, eating disorders, and body image concerns.
- Couples Counseling: Our therapists provide couples counseling services for couples who are seeking to improve their relationship and address any issues that they may be facing.
- Group Therapy: We offer group therapy sessions for individuals who are looking for support and connection with others who are facing similar challenges.
- Consultation and Training: Our therapists are available for consultation and training services for organizations and businesses.

Our therapists use evidence-based approaches, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and psychodynamic therapy, to help clients achieve their goals.
