Heartland Healing Counseling & Consultation is a private group psychotherapy and wellness practice that prioritizes the needs of LGBTQIAP+ individuals and other marginalized communities. Our team of experienced, culturally competent therapists is dedicated to providing evidence-based psychotherapy in a warm, welcoming, and safe environment. We believe in the power of self-determination, holistic health, harm reduction, and disability and racial justice. Our therapists strive to build therapeutic relationships through collaboration, creativity, and recognition of the environmental and cultural factors that impact the way people move through this complex world.

Our Approach

At Heartland Healing Counseling & Consultation, we provide a range of services tailored to meet the unique needs of our clients. We offer individual, partner, and group therapy across a wide variety of diagnoses and challenges. Our therapists utilize many therapeutic modalities based on individual need, including CBT, DBT, EFT, and expressive arts and experiential therapies. We believe in the power of clients' strengths and lived experience to affect positive change and help our clients gain self-knowledge, confront obstacles to their growth, and move toward authenticity and joy.

Clinical Supervision

Heartland's CEO, Cassandra Avenatti, provides thoughtful, one-on-one clinical supervision toward licensure (LCSW, LMHC, LCPC). Our clinical supervision services are designed to help new therapists develop the skills and competencies necessary to provide high-quality, evidence-based psychotherapy to their clients.

Our Team

Our team of experienced, culturally competent therapists is dedicated to providing high-quality, evidence-based psychotherapy services to our clients.

  • Natalie (she/her) is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate. She earned her master's degree in counseling psychology at Ball State University with a concentration in rehabilitation counseling. Natalie has experience working with clients of various diverse backgrounds and has a passion for working with sexual, gender, and ethnic minorities. She has experience working with clients with anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD, and other mental health disorders. Natalie utilizes a cognitive-behavioral approach and an interpersonal psychotherapy approach to help process emotions with an emphasis on open communication, setting healthy boundaries, and confidence building. Natalie likes to emphasize the importance of the therapeutic relationship and creates a safe and non-judgmental counseling environment to allow clients to share their mental health concerns comfortably.
  • Lisa (she/her) earned her MS in Psychology from Purdue University, and completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology with specializations in Addictions, Neuroscience, and Women's Studies from Indiana University. Lisa approaches therapy with warm and grounded energy, and a collaborative style. She offers experience and expertise in treating mood disorders, PTSD, Substance Use Disorders, anxiety, grief and loss, adjustment disorders and navigating life transitions. Lisa is adept in evidence-based therapies like CBT, REBT, MI, and DBT, specifically tailoring those methods to the individual, empowering clients to overcome challenges and achieve their goals. Lisa has particular interest in serving LGBTQ+ communities and marginalized (POC, LGBTQ+, women) service members.
