Empowering You to Find Your Balance
Welcome to my website. Are you considering therapy? Perhaps you are feeling: Anxious, depressed, out of balance in your life, or just need someone to talk to. Maybe you are having difficulties in your relationships or are going through significant life changes and looking for support? These are just some of the reasons people come for therapy. As we travel through life each of us encounters change and difficulty. Loss, trauma, illness, aging, career or marital changes. Even positive events in life such as the birth of a child, or a new relationship can throw one off balance, cause stress, anxiety, depression, and confusion. It's OK to need help sometimes.
About Therapy
People participate in therapy, also called psychotherapy, for various reasons. Many people find it can be helpful to talk with someone outside their family/social circle, such as a therapist, to get a fresh perspective, new ideas, and a different kind of support. Therapy is different from the support of friends in several ways. For example, conversations in therapy are confidential, with a few legally mandated exceptions. Therapists are educated and trained in various theories and techniques designed to help you deal with difficulties and promote personal growth and improve relationships. Also, your time in therapy sessions focuses on you, rather than the conversational give and take of family and friend relationships. Sometimes just discussing and processing your experience within therapy will help you regain balance and find your way out of the maze into just the right path for you. Other times therapy can be useful in helping you to learn new coping skills and strategies, such as parenting skills or communications skills to improve your relationships.
About Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, or MFTs

MFTs provide psychotherapy services to individuals, couples, families, and groups. Depending on their interest, training, and experience they see adults, children, and adolescents. Although MFTs may emphasis different theories and have different styles they all focus primarily on improving and strengthening relationships.
