Empowering Self-Awareness, One Conversation at a Time

I am a psychologist based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with a private practice focused on psychoanalysis. I have been licensed for over 30 years and have received board certification in psychoanalysis from the American Board of Professional Psychology. I am also a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and the American Academy of Psychoanalysis. I have made significant contributions to the field of psychology on a national level and am passionate about the change process. My life's work has been dedicated to innovating psychodynamic techniques, making the process more interactive and collaborative. I have authored three books, several book chapters, and numerous journal articles and book reviews.

Services Offered

My services include psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, both of which are not passive activities. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is most successful when the therapist and client are a good match, and the process becomes collaborative. I offer a safe, structured, and predictable environment for clients, allowing them to temporarily let down their defenses, leading to increased self-awareness and the ability to know and feel deep emotions. These emotions typically lead to greater integration, maturity, and a sense of being in control of one's life.

The typical presenting problems that I offer help with include anxiety, depression, guilt and shame, difficulties with managing and expressing emotions, problems with maintaining relationships, problems with authority figures, companion fears of success and failure, marital problems, and grieving and loss. I am not trained to work with children or people with current addiction problems, current eating disorders, or psychotic disorders, and typically refer patients with these issues to specialists in those areas.

I offer supervision on a weekly basis for psychodynamic clinicians seeking greater insight into their role in the treatment and who are dedicated to their professional development. I provide constructive and specific feedback, both positive and negative, and work best with therapists who are seeking this.
