The MPSI Psychotherapy Center was founded in 2009 by a group of mental health clinicians and community leaders with a vision to make psychoanalytic psychotherapy more accessible and affordable for underserved populations. Conveniently located in south Minneapolis at the corner of Franklin and Blaisdell Ave, the Center is accessible by car and public transportation. The MPSI Psychotherapy Center offers an alternative to other community psychological services because of its freedom from the constraints of insurance requirements and its commitment to providing intensive services that bring long-term results.
Mission and Purpose
Our mission is to provide high-quality, yet affordable psychoanalytic psychotherapy to individuals and couples, while also contributing to the mental health and well-being of our community. We believe that everyone deserves access to effective mental health care, regardless of their financial situation. Our staff is committed to providing a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment for individuals to explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and work towards personal growth and healing.
Services
The MPSI Psychotherapy Center offers low fee psychodynamic psychotherapy to people unable to afford mental health care. Our therapists are highly trained and experienced in the psychodynamic approach, which focuses on helping individuals understand and resolve unconscious motivations and emotions that shape their lives. Our therapists work closely with each patient to develop a personalized treatment plan that addresses their unique needs and goals.
We offer sessions for individuals, couples, and families, as well as group therapy and support groups. Our therapists are trained to work with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and relationships issues. We also offer specialized services for LGBTQ+ individuals, individuals with addictions, and those affected by trauma.
Unique Aspects
What sets us apart from other mental health services is our commitment to providing intensive, long-term therapy that addresses the underlying causes of mental health issues, rather than just treating symptoms. Our therapists believe that early life experiences, including relationships with family members, can shape our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and that these experiences can influence our relationships and overall well-being. By exploring these early experiences, our therapists help individuals develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships, leading to more fulfilling and meaningful lives.
Fellowship Program
Each Fall, the Center accepts six to seven Fellows who, in return for an immersion in psychoanalytic thinking and practice, provide psychotherapy to our patients. As part of our program, Fellows participate in a year of classes in the MPSI Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Training Program (PPTP), and receive intensive supervision including two hours of group and two hours of individual supervision per week.
