About Suzanne De Montigny

I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Human Development from St. Mary's College in 1991. I earned my Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology from Naropa University in 1999. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Psychotherapist (LPC), a Level 1 Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapist, a Couples Therapist, a Grief Group Facilitator, and a Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist. I have over two decades of experience working in private practice. My post-graduate supervision for licensure was fulfilled for two years, along with in-depth clinical training for six years at the Boulder Psychotherapy Institute (BPI) under the supervision of Betty Cannon, PhD, in Applied Existential Psychotherapy (AEP). I pursued additional trainings in Gestalt Therapy, Somatic Therapy, EMDR, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Schema Therapy, IFS Level 1 Therapy and IFIO Couples Therapy.

My Approach

My approach to therapy is grounded in psychodynamic psychotherapy, which focuses on exploring the unconscious processes that influence behavior and emotions. I aim to help you resolve longstanding patterns that are keeping you from fully embodying your self and finding meaning in your life and relationships. My intention is to help you find your resources through a variety of means, including supportive psychotherapy or couples therapy, addressing specific symptoms such as anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, or relational issues, or taking a deeper look at your life, relationships, and goals. My approach is a higher frequency model with a titrated, subtly-attuned, and deeply relational approach of contemporary psychotherapy for those who may be interested in an experience with relational continuity and an in-depth exploration of your parts.

Issues I Work With

I work with a variety of issues that include trauma and C-PTSD, dissociation & derealization, mood disorders such as depression, irritability, anger, narcissistic/borderline presentations, anxiety disorders such as chronic worry, fears, panic, stress coping and physiology, phobias, obsessive thoughts, rumination, OCD, relational issues such as communication skills, emotional intimacy, social anxiety, loneliness, boundary work, codependency, infidelity, personal growth and development, grief and loss, self-esteem, shame, ADHD and impulsivity problems, and mind-brain/body interface and neurophysiological approaches to psychotherapy.

Professional Affiliations

I am currently a member of the American Counseling Association, International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy, and the Boulder Psychotherapy Institute in Boulder, Colorado. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC #LPC.13933) in the State of Colorado. I am committed to ongoing professional development and the study and practice of psychotherapy, in addition to my practice in couples therapy.

Testimonials

Suzanne is a thoughtful and skilled therapist who has helped many clients delve into their core issues, supporting them all the way. She is spiritual and a joy to work with. Suzanne helps heal, center and balance, and my time spent with her will last a lifetime. Debbie

I have been working with Suzanne for almost 1 year, and I can only say that she helped me a lot. She made me aware of many things about myself, and all that through a very safe, supportive approach. She helped me see my problems and offered tools and reflections that I could work with. I am really grateful for her walking almost one year beside me and being there in many situations that life brought me in. I would highly recommend her. Dijan S.
