Our Therapist

Scott Kamilar, Ph. D., is a licensed psychologist with extensive experience. He received his Ph. D. in Clinical Psychology from Wayne State University in 1980. His background includes working as a Staff Psychologist and Deputy Director of the Day Hospital at the VA Medical Center in Houston, Texas, and later as the Director of the Family Therapy Program. Since 1989, he has been in private practice in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He has also held teaching positions and presented nationally on various topics, including Ericksonian Hypnotherapy, family therapy, group therapy, and Buddhist psychology.

Therapeutic Style

We believe that even during challenging times, individuals possess an underlying quality of basic sanity and wisdom. Symptoms signal a need for replenishment and self-care or the replacement of worn-out patterns with more mindful behavior. Our goal is to help you define and work towards a goal that best meets your needs, whether it's addressing a specific issue or achieving broader personal growth. In our sessions, we facilitate self-discovery through skillful questioning and teach coping skills like mindfulness, relaxation, effective communication, and assertiveness.

Our specialties include stress and anxiety, depression, relationship and communication problems, self-esteem issues, and personal growth. We also offer mindful group therapy, which is a weekly practice of mindful interaction among participants. Each session begins with mindfulness meditation to encourage awareness and self-reflection.
